About the Owner
My name is Peter Schneider, and I am the founder of Treasuregate Gallery-Art of the Ancient.
My engagement with ancient art began long before the gallery existed.
What has always fascinated me is not only the aesthetic power of ancient objects,
but their ability to act as direct witnesses to distant civilizations.
Each piece carries history, craftsmanship, belief systems, and human presence across centuries or millennia.
Before becoming a fully web-based gallery, Treasuregate Gallery was located near the Sablon in Brussels,
a district long associated with art, antiques, and connoisseurship. That physical space shaped the gallery’s
identity: rigorous scholarship, careful selection,
and a respect for objects as cultural artefacts rather than decorative commodities.
Today, the gallery operates exclusively online through ArtoftheAncient.com, allowing me to work internationally
while maintaining the same standards of expertise and discretion. I am based in the Netherlands,
but the scope of the gallery remains global, serving private collectors, institutions, and professionals worldwide.
The core focus of the gallery is Ancient Art, with particular attention to authenticity, provenance
and historical context. Alongside ancient objects, I also present a curated selection of minerals and fossils,
chosen for their natural beauty, rarity, and their dialogue with deep time.
Complementing the objects is an extensive offering of books and exhibition catalogues,
reflecting my belief that collecting is inseparable from study and knowledge.
As owner and curator, I remain personally involved in every aspect of the gallery,
from acquisition and research to client relationships. I value long-term trust, transparency
and meaningful exchanges over volume or trend.
Art of the Ancient is intended as a place where objects are not only acquired, but understood.
