Large Ammonite
Very large Ammonite, very well preserved.
Upper Jurassic Ammonite from Dorset, UK
This impressive Upper Jurassic ammonite from South England displays the classic tightly coiled spiral and deeply ribbed shell structure that make these extinct marine cephalopods among the most recognizable fossils in the world. Measuring an exceptional 30 × 32 cm, the specimen has strong visual presence, with pronounced radial ribbing extending from the inner whorls to the outer body chamber, highlighting both its natural symmetry and geological preservation.
The fossil is preserved in pale limestone matrix with excellent relief and three-dimensional detail, allowing the intricate chambered growth pattern to remain clearly visible. Subtle mineral tones and weathering across the surface enhance its authentic character while emphasizing the shell’s natural morphology developed over approximately 150 million years ago during the Upper Jurassic period.
Collected from the famous Jurassic marine deposits of Southern England, this ammonite represents an ancient ocean predator related to modern nautiluses, squid, and octopuses. Large examples of this scale are highly sought after for their decorative impact, scientific interest, and connection to the renowned fossil-bearing strata of the English Jurassic Coast.
