Gypsum, var. Selenite

This unusual specimen of gypsum originates from Southern Australia. Densely crystallized pale-green transparent gypsum, variety selenite, that formed in a evaporite layer in the lagoon, resulting in a flat bottom to the formation. The green color is caused by copper oxide impurities that are common in the area.
