Ancient Mediterranean Blue Glass Crescent-Shaped Hair ring

A small and striking ancient cobalt-blue glass ornament, formed as an open crescent or horseshoe-shaped hoop. The piece displays a rich, deep blue colour with subtle variations in tone and opacity, together with an attractively irregular surface characteristic of ancient glass.

The surface shows age-related weathering and mineral accretions, including areas of lighter alteration and surface discolouration, giving the object an appealing archaeological character. The intense blue colour is consistent with the use of cobalt as a glass colourant, a technique well represented in ancient Egyptian and Roman-period glass production.

Its unusual crescent form may have served as a personal adornment, hair ornament, or earring, although its precise original function cannot be established with certainty. The compact size and substantial construction, combined with the vivid cobalt colour, make it an especially attractive example of ancient Mediterranean glass work.
