Ancient beads, modern re-stringing and mounting

An evocative multi-strand necklace incorporating ancient Egyptian faience beads, carefully re-strung and assembled in modern times as a wearable contemporary composition.

The principal elements are elongated tubular faience beads and smaller disc-shaped faience beads, executed in characteristic pale blue-green tones associated with Egyptian faience. The beads display individual variations in colour, surface texture and patination, reflecting their age and previous history.

The necklace combines these ancient Egyptian faience elements with additional ancient beads in complementary earthy tones, creating a richly varied palette of blue-green, cream, ochre, terracotta and brown. The repeated cylindrical and disc forms produce a rhythmic, graduated arrangement across the three strands.

The necklace has been re-strung and mounted in modern times. The connecting chains, metal links, fittings and clasp are modern and should not be considered part of the original ancient construction. The present necklace is therefore a modern assemblage incorporating ancient Egyptian faience beads, rather than an intact ancient necklace.

The contrast between the naturally aged faience beads and the contemporary mounting gives the piece a distinctive character, bringing together ancient Egyptian material culture and modern jewellery craftsmanship.
