Ancient Egyptian Steatite Scarab Amulet

This scarab showcases a masterfully carved, flat oval base bordered by a distinct incised framing line.

The underside features a highly protective, vertically arranged cryptographic motif in sunk relief:

  • The Three Solar-Crowned Uraei: Three rearing, flared cobras stand side-by-side in sharp relief. Each cobra is surmounted by a distinct incised circular dot at the top edge of the frame, representing the sun disk ( Ra).

  • The Neb Basket: The sun-crowned cobras rest directly upon a semi-circular base representing the Egyptian hieroglyphic basket sign.

    Every carved element on this talisman served a specific magical or administrative purpose:

    • The Scarab Form: Represents Khepri (the god of the rising sun), serving as the ultimate Egyptian symbol for rebirth, self-creation, and cosmic renewal.

    • The Sun-Crowned Cobras (Uraei): Rearing cobras represent the goddess Wadjet, a fierce protector against evil forces. The dots above their heads represent solar disks, identifying the cobras as aspects of the Eye of Ra, unleashing blinding solar fire upon enemies. Repeating this icon three times acts as a grammatical multiplier, signifying unlimited, supreme divine protection.

    • The Neb Basket: Phonetically read as "Neb," meaning "Lord," "Master," or "All."

    • The Combined Message: Together, the composition reads as a visual spell translating to "The Lord of Solar and Royal Protection" or "All Protection of the Sun God."
